A Georgian Style Red Lacquered and Chinoiserie Decorated Secretary Bookcase
18th Century and Later
Height 76 1/2 x width 46 x depth 15 inches.

By repute, imported from Buenos Aires
Antique Resources, Chicago

Condition

The secretary is constructed from various 18th and 19th century parts, probably from both English and Chinese furniture items. There are red lacquered / Chinoiserie-decorated elements as well as mahogany elements. The frames of the doors and parts of the base appear to be English mahogany, inset with un-related red lacquer panels. The fall-front writing surface appears to be taken from the fall-front of a different desk. There are carved dragon or paw corbels and feet that are probably taken from Chinese furniture. The interior of the bookcase is upholstered and has carved shelves which are not original. It is in sturdy, clean condition overall. Please request a complete condition report.
